Serena Lodge
by Gillie Tregidgo
Prologue
“She was lying on the floor wearing only her pearls,” said the panicked caller when he reached the desk sergeant at the Vancouver Police Department. This was the second unexpected death at Serena Lodge. The duty officer of the day called Inspector Penelope Dash of the VPD Homicide unit to investigate as she had been the lead Police Officer in the first murder at Serena Lodge just a few weeks earlier.
When Penelope arrived, she gasped at what she saw.
Chapter 11
“Are you saying that she’s been moved?” Penelope asked George.
“Yep,” George said, his intelligent eyes looking intently at her. He had striking china-blue eyes that made her think of speedwell flowers. These tiny blue flowers reminded her of her childhood. Looking at him always induced a state of fondness and calm in her, despite his sloppy and often irreverent speech. His sparkling white flinty teeth leant an overall impression of a squeaky-clean appearance, which she liked.
As one of her therapist’s had once remarked, “Next to solving crime, bodily cleanliness is one of your favourite leisure time pursuits!”
